Hong Kong Akoya Pearls

Excepted Jadeite, Pearl is one of the favorite gem materials I often use on my creation.

For a thesis written by the PhD of The Univ of Hong Kong, it has been re-started culturing the Akoya pearls in Hong Kong from few years ago. The day when I learned that there are some pearl farms in Hong Kong and firstly visited was the early of 2018.

The variety of the Mother of Pearl is same as Japan which is Akoya.  The Akoya pearl Oyster will be inserted with a nucleus bead after farmed in the fish farm for 12 months. Then, the pearl will be usually harvested in 12-16months afterward.

Now, Akoya pearls can be also harvested in Hong Kong, and became is part of my new collection too.
